Deck
thirteen of the Independence of the Seas is all about sports and
action. First introduced on the Freedom and Liberty of
the Seas, the FlowRider throws out perfect six foot waves at thirty
five miles per hour in a completely controlled, man made environment.
Royal Caribbean International is the first (and only) cruise line to
offer surfing on deck with inventor Tom Lochtefeld's FlowRider surfing
simulator. Guests are assisted by the sports staff and can choose
to boogie board, surf, and even sign up for personal lessons. For
busy sea days, the FlowRider can also be divided so that two guests may
participate at once.
Adjacent to the FlowRider is the Wipe Out! bar where guests can pick up
refreshments or just sit and people watch.
Also on deck
thirteen, guests can play a round of miniature golf at Freedom Fairways,
shoot some hoops on the full size basketball court, or try their hand at
the golf simulator.
Royal Caribbean
was also the first cruise line to introduce rock climbing at sea, which
became so popular, the wall was also retroactively brought to the ships
in the fleet.
Stairs located both port and starboard side lead up to deck fourteen
where there are outdoor sections of the Viking Crown Lounge. The
starboard side is restricted to guests using the Diamond Lounge. |
