Main Deck

Completely forward on Main Deck is the lower level of the Showroom at Sea. The Showroom at Sea sweeps up to Lower Promenade and Promenade Decks. The main theater can accommodate up to 890 guests and traditionally offers two different show times in the evening to accommodate a wide range of meal times. The Showroom at Sea takes a more intimate approach to entertainment in a cabaret style format. Exemplifying this is the singing group Cantaré, a quartet of male performers with a pop music repertoire covering several eras.


With the debut of the Nieuw Amsterdam, new shows were brought forward such as "N.Y.C.", a musical tour of the Big Apple, "Ladies Night", a fun all-female revue, "Live from the Avalon Ballroom", an extravaganza of ballroom dance and music, "Garage Band", a sixties and seventies musical set in an automobile service center, and "It Takes Two", a revue of famous duets and duos. Amidships on Main Deck is the lower level of Nieuw Amsterdam's Atrium. Most all Holland America Line ships have an intimate Atrium to maintain the smaller ship feel but also still bridge many of the key public areas for guests. Anchoring the Atrium on Main Deck are the Front Office, Shore Excursions Desk, Guest Relations Manager desk, and Future Cruise Consultant desk. There are also hospitality desks that parallel each other for group leaders, etc. Absent on the Nieuw Amsterdam is the Atrium Bar. In its place is a floral display, 'Tulips From Amsterdam'. Atop the Atrium is a majestic telescoping chandelier designed to honor New York City's iconic skyline. The LED-equipped chandelier is lit with a varying spectrum of different colours.
