In
the style of many of her sister ships, the Norwegian Jewel was
constructed at Meyer Werft Shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. She was
christened on 3 November, 2005 at an official ceremony at the Port of
Miami. Her Godmother is Melania Trump, spouse of Donald Trump. Norwegian Jewel is the first of Norwegian Cruise Line's four Jewel class ships. She was followed in 2006 by Norwegian Jade (originally the Pride of Hawaii) and Norwegian Pearl, and then in 2007 by Norwegian Gem. Each ship offers similar amenities but share similar hull and interior layout. Norwegian Jewel was originally preceded by two Libra class ships, Norwegian Star and Norwegian Dawn. While the Star and Dawn have similar hulls, the amenities and services offered by the Jewel are significantly different. Norwegian Jewel offers a consistently high product across many regions, having sailed full Europe seasons, Caribbean, and Alaska seasons, offering occasional Panama Canal sailings. Norwegian Cruise Line
