A
rustic and enticing lounge in which to read and peruse other itineraries
offered by Royal Caribbean is the Crown and Anchor Lounge hidden between
the youth facilities and the sun walk outdoors. The loyalty
ambassador is located here with whom one may book future cruises on
Royal Caribbean ships. A striking centerpiece in this lounge is a
transparent glass table through which guests may look directly down into
the Centrum. Only a handful of guests took a big enough liking to
this to view for an extended length of time while others tended to shy
away. |
Children's Pool
and Slide
|
Despite
the cooler outdoor temperature this voyage, many young guests took
delight in utilizing the water slide. This is also one structure
that dominates the profile of Radiance of the Seas when viewing her from
afar. Adults are left out in no way in all of this action.
Hovering above deck twelve is the revolutionary rock climbing wall that
was originally born on sister ship Voyager of the Seas. A clever
catwalk joins the aft portion and Fairways of Radiance to this icon of
adventure and challenge. |
Views of the Rock
Climbing Wall |
I
viewed some of the open hours of the rock climbing wall and was
impressed by the skill level of most who had attempted. A cruise
staff members does guide and assist guests who delve into this new
seagoing adventure. The rock climbing wall has apparently proven
quite popular as she is being continued on nearly all of Royal
Caribbean's new build ships after the Voyager of the Seas. If a
stroll along the deck is more appealing, the sun walk along deck twelve
provides many sights to enjoy. Customary on many Royal Caribbean
ships, the sun walk encircles the main swimming pool to reduce the
effects of wind. The walk around deck twelve offers many unique
sights as depicted in the following set of photographs. |

For
me, the Viking Crown Lounge has always proven to create a dramatic on
the overall profile of a Royal Caribbean Ship. That on the
Radiance of the Seas is no exception and is home to two distinct
venues. Over time, the Viking Crown Lounge has provided various
functions : a simple cocktail lounge, a discotheque, and more recently a
wedding chapel. While one cannot tie the knot on Radiance's
crowning peak, it is still a bustling focal point for many.

Hollywood Odyssey
|
I happened to enter the
Viking Crown Lounge via an external door port side and found myself in the
1930s-style Hollywood Odyssey. Here, one can enjoy sweeping sea views while
reliving the pizzazz of Hollywood via the eye-catching décor and names
reminiscent of years gone by. A magnificent mélange of red, gold,
and brass create a bright canvas by day and a warmer feel by evening with
live entertainment. Fusing the mood of Hollywood Odyssey with that
of Starquest, the ship's discotheque, is a striking foyer overlooking the
Centrum. "Starfire Lighting", the main work or art in this
area, greets guests as they venture into Starquest for a night of dancing.

Starquest
creates a bright and cosmic effect for guests to enjoy drinks by day and
then dance the night away. A clever revolving bar allows one to
enjoy his/her favorite drink while viewing every aspect of the lounge
without leaving the bar stool!

Starquest by Day
...
... and Night
|
Starquest
provides a panoramic view of the sea and overlooks the pool area.
By day, it is a wonderful venue for small gatherings and good
conversation. The use of light blues and lavenders creates a
soothing and welcoming backdrop to share with a group or just
solo. Neon lights come alive by night, however, to create a bit
more of a rousing environment. Video monitors and a varied line-up
of music leaves nothing to be desired from what one would find in a
land-based club. Multi-tiered seating throughout the lounge
provide alcoves for the gathering of a small group or simply for a new
found friend.
