Venice, Italy
These photos are from the ports of call and shore excursions of Vence, Italy. The photos correspond closely to my text review of the Splendour of the Seas and are in date/time order.
Our stay in Venice began with a wonderful entrance through the Grand Canal. The following photos will show you our entire stay from our entrance into the Canal and to our departure!
Above : As we enter the Grand Canal, an excursion boat from Venice greets us and follows us in.
Above : Our first few glances of Venice were just appetizers of the scenery and architecture to come!
Above : St. Mark's Square comes into closer view as the Port Specialist give us a narration of the city over the ship's intercom system.
Above : Here, we could begin to see St. Mark's Square - where we could be venturing into within the next couple of hours on our own or by organized shore excursions.
Above : Here are a few views of what represents the city of Venice. Where most cities are roads and intersections, so is it with Venice ... only with water instead of concrete. Each bridge has its own look, personality, and design.
Above : While feeling as if we were already in town, a glimpse around reminded us that we were still aboard!
Above : Sailing away on the tender always provides some excellent views of the ship that one cannot get from the pier.
Above : A first impression of St. Mark's Square in Venice brings feelings of awe, reminiscence, and grandeur.
Above : Walking just outside of the perimeter of St. Mark's Square, you already begin to notice the beautiful waterways and gondolas that add to the charm of Venice.
Above : The famous Rialto Bridge with its shops and markets, leads to more secluded parts of the city.
Above : Just before catching one of the last tenders back to the Splendour of the Seas, some last-minute photo opportunities still existed.
Above : Sailaway from Venice was beautiful and provided wonderful scenery as our entrance did. A friend and I caught the scenery and remarked how Venice was definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Above : Here we could see the marina and the tender loading area where we had just come from!
Above : Our last glimpse of Venice before we headed back out to the ocean and before I headed down to dinner in the King and I Dining Room!
