Europe 2000 Photo Gallery
Civitavecchia, Italy / Villefranche, France
These photos are from the ports of call and shore excursions of Civitavecchia, Italy and Villefranche, France. The photos correspond closely to my text review of the Splendour of the Seas and are in date/time order.
Above : Here is the Moses Statue, an original work by Michelangelo that we saw in the Basilica St. Peter in Chains.
Above : Nearby the Basilica St. Peter in Chains, one can find the Forum.
Above : About a ten minute walk brings you to the Roman Colosseum.
Above : An interior view of the Colosseum . . .
Above : . . . and an exterior view.
Above : Another coach drive brings one to the Piazza San Pietro and the Vatican City. All are within walking distance of about fifteen to twenty minutes. We were dropped off (Left) at the Piazza San Pietro and then I walked to the Vatican City. The entrance of the Vatican Museum (center) leads you to the many galleries within, including the one (far right) to the Sistene Chapel.
Villefranche, France
Above : Our first stop on the excursion «Nice and Eze » was at a historical and cultural Russian church. We had just a few moments to take photographs and read about the background.
Above : We drove along the Middle Corniche and had a beautiful view of the Splendour of the Seas bathing in the harbour (left) on our way to the jet-set city of Nice and its downtown area (right).
Above : Here I am at an overlook of Nice. Some smaller cruise ships can dock right in town as you might see behind me in the photograph.
Above : Our final stop was at the town of Eze. Its beautiful narrow streets lead to shops and spice markets that are simply irresistable. The views are incredible and the local delicacies are unforgettable.
Above : The tender ride from the pier in Villefranche lasts only about ten minutes to the Splendour of the Seas.
