The
ms Veendam became the fourth sister in the successful Statendam
class of ships. Like all Holland America Line ships, she was
designed with the intent for World wide cruising and hosts a spectacular
array of art and pieces from history. |

She
has evolved for modern day cruising when she received the Signature of
Excellence enhancements and is always adapting to Holland America Line's
forward-looking marketing initiatives. In May of 2009, the Veendam
emerged from drydock with her most extensive refurbishment to date at
that time.
Her gross registered tonnage from the drydock increased from 55,758 to
57,092 and her overall guest capacity increased from 1,258 to
1,350. In terms of the staterooms that were added, she received an
additional 44 verandah staterooms, ten interior staterooms, but her
ocean view staterooms actually decreased by 46.
The decrease in ocean view staterooms is due in part to the creation of
lanai staterooms that are located on the Lower Promenade Deck.
These accommodations afford guests with the ability to walk out onto the
exterior deck directly from their stateroom. |

Other
dramatic changes taking place on board the Veendam during her
2009 refurbishment include the Retreat on Lido Deck aft, overhauled
guest stateroom bathrooms, Canaletto, Mix, the Showroom at Sea, addition
of spa staterooms, and the implementation of the Explorations Team.
With all of the
innovative developments, Veendam's
corridor photography salutes both the history of Holland America Line
and also depicts modern day ships in various ports from around the
globe.
