Lower
Promenade Deck provides a 360 degree full-circuit teak promenade.
Guests may walk laps here or just settle in with a good book on one of
the traditional deck chairs.
During Veendam's 2009 refurbishment, she gained the addition of
38 lanai staterooms. This addition comes in the form of a
conversion from former standard ocean view staterooms. Guests
occupying the lanai staterooms have access to the exterior promenade and
exclusive use of deck chairs nearby. A variety of ocean view
staterooms still exist on Veendam's Lower Promenade Deck, some of
which have partial sea views or obstructed. |

Perhaps
Veendam's most prominent work of art on board is in the Atrium.
'Jacob's Ladder'
is a three-story spiral work of art created by Luciano Vistosi.
Vistosi is one of Italy's leading contemporary glass artists and each
section of this crystalline tower in blue and gold was made by hand in
the World capital of glassmaking, Murano, Italy.
The original
Jacob's Ladder was the biblical Stairway to Heaven. In nautical
terms, a 'Jacob's Ladder' refers to a specialized ladder used at sea,
especially a rope ladder, with wooden steps for ascending from the deck
to the rigging. Luckily for today's Veendam guests, they
may ascend on the sweeping staircases encircling the Atrium or use
nearby lifts.
Where senior staff offices were once located off of the Atrium,
additional staterooms were created, including four of the lanai concept
and two of which are wheelchair accessible with roll-in shower only and
wheelchair accessible doorways. |
