The focal
masterpiece in Vision of the Seas' Centrum is 'Ariel' designed by
Peter Layton and Simon Moss. They also created 'Janus' for sister
ship Legend of the Seas. 'Ariel' from Shakespeare's 'The
Tempest' is a suspended structure in float glass, stainless steel, gold
plated brass and acryllic.
The sculpture is a
visual fantasy representing a dancing spirit-like figure. In
Shakespeare's 'The Tempest', Ariel is described as an airy
will-of-the-wisp, invisible at will, all light and spirit, symbolizing
man's imagination and vision. In his final speech, Prospero
entreats Ariel to ensure "calm seas, auspicious gales and sail so
expeditious that shall catch the Royal Fleet far off".
The sculpture's jewel-like
shapes combine scale with delicate detailing. The polished
surfaces absorb and reflect a myriad of colors and sparkling
highlights. Soaring, elegant forms and graceful flowing movement
enhance and focus the drama of the Centrum space. |
